First Aid Outdoors in Sport

Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th February

Greystoke Cycle Cafe, Poplin Dub, Greystoke,Penrith, Cumbria- 9am to 5pm

017684 83984

The outdoor environment nearly always means that the casualty has to be looked after for a longer timescale than is typical in a more urban setting. All of our outdoor First Aid courses look at how to manage the situation when the ambulance does not turn up in 10 minutes time and are appropriate if your work or leisure place is remote.

The First Aid Trainer has an active interest and commitment to the outdoor environment and fully understand the issues, dilemmas and judgments required when dealing with incidents in potentially hostile remote environments making the training highly relevant to you needs.

This course covers essential lifesaving techniques, especially dealing with casualties safely, systematically and sympathetically in the first few minutes of the more remote incident. Typically outdoor instructors working within centre grounds or on 'controlled' sites take this award as a minimum standard of duty of care. The course is also very popular with Trainee and assistant instructors starting out on their career.

Interactive hands-on training is the hallmark of this course, designed for all those working in remote locations in the British Isles. Training and scenarios are based on being more than several minutes up to several hours from help or the rescue team arriving. The first day covers the Emergency Action content with the second day building upon this. This qualification covers the needs of the outdoor national governing bodies for their Instructor awards.

Coronation Hall, County Square, Ulverston, Cumbria

01229 587140

A fun day when all members of the family can get creative! The aim is for families to spend the day together working creatively on a particular story or theme, to produce an afternoon performance.

When each family arrives at 10.30 they are allocated into one of three groups and working on a rotation basis each group experiences three workshops.

The first workshop is a percussion workshop when everyone can have a go on our principal percussionist's huge range of percussion, including sleigh bells, gongs, timpani, drums, wind chimes, exotic African and Asian instruments etc

The second workshop is craft based and children and parents make props, scenery, costumes and instruments for the final performance.

The third workshop is with a storyteller and is drama based - everyone gets involved with bringing the script to life and acting out the story.

The three groups come together at the end for a final performance on the stage.

The day is most suitable for children between the ages of 7 and 11 although this is very flexible. Children must be accompanied by an adult, who will also have the opportunity to take an active role in the day's activities! There is a short break for lunch and you can invite non participating family members along to the final performance.
