August in the Garden
The sunshine is back with us and Lakeside Gardens are full of flowers. Hydrangeas have enjoyed the recent rain and are looking especially good, we grow the traditional lacecaps and mopheads but also Hyrangea villosa, H.quercifolia and H.‘Grayswood'. We also have some specimens of the climbing evergreen Hydrangea, H.serratifolia. All do well here.
The summer bedding this year was slow to start but we now have a good show of Salvia Patens, Zinnias, Argyranthemums, Dahlias and Nicotiana. All our annuals will continue to flower right through to autumn, especially as many are in fact tender perennials.
The hardy perennials are in full flower too and will continue for many weeks, Lobelia tupa, from South America has started its show of unusual red blooms, whilst Digitalis ferruginea, ‘The Rusty Foxglove' is performing well in one of our woodland areas. We allow all our foxgloves to set seed, harvest it ourselves and sow it where we want more plants, its as easy as that!
