February in the Garden
The snowdrops are now flowering, with crocus and some very early daffodils just about to bloom too. On milder days the garden is filled with the wonderful scent of Sarcoccoca, an easily grown small evergreen shrub. We grow three varieties, all of which have similar scented flowers for weeks on end. The uncommon variety 'Purple Stem' originally comes from a plant at nearby Holker Hall. Sarcoccocas and other evergreens contribute towards giving a garden structure, they can be used to divide different areas of a garden, helping to add interest. When planting evergreens together always take into account leaf shape and colour and try to plant contrasting shape next to each other.
If you are visiting soon please come out and have a look around the garden, you will be surprised at how much there is to see at this time of year.
