July in the Garden

Herbaceous perennials are putting on a good show for us this month. Hostas and Geraniums always do well with us and we grow many varieties of each, However the Hemerocallis, commonly called 'day lilies' we find are really useful plants. Although herbaceous they have neat, fresh green strap-like leaves from Spring to Autumn, they grow in full sun or part shade and produce flowers in a wide range of colours. We divide them every few years and so you will see them all around our gardens, although each individual flower only lasts a day there are many buds on each stem, giving a continuous display. We even use them for cut flowers in the Hotel. If you visit us during the winter we will be happy to dig up a root for you!
