Hop off with the kids to the land of Peter Rabbit

Small fans of Beatrix Potter's famous stories will have plenty to keep them happy on a new hotel break in the Lake District this spring.

Families with pre-school-age children are offered a host of free treats at Lakeside Hotel, set beside the water on Lake Windermere.

These include entrance to the newly re-opened World of Beatrix Potter in nearby Bowness, where stories and characters from her books are brought to life in realistic settings, plus a Beatrix Potter cuddly toy to take home.

In addition, families get tickets to visit Hill Top, the writer's 17th-century farmhouse home near Hawkshead; enjoy a lake cruise on Windermere leaving from the jetty outside the hotel; and entrance to The Aquarium of the Lakes, just opposite.

The three-night break at the four-star hotel near Newby Bridge costs £645 for a family of two adults and up to three under-fives sharing a family room, with full English breakfast.

It is available until May 22 (excluding Easter) at the spectacularly-located hotel, where there is a choice of brasserie and fine-dining restaurants - both offering children's menus - and a spa with 17m pool welcoming accompanied children all day.
