Lakeside Hotel Gardens

Lakeside Hotel’s gardens are packed with choice plants, the gardens have been created to be of all year round interest to our guests, and we hope to surprise and delight our residents whatever their own level of gardening knowledge. We have a weekly tour every Monday morning at 10am throughout the Summer months and our gardeners are always happy to answer any questions you may have.

The carefully designed planting combinations are perfectly offset by the waters edge location, there are plenty of places to sit and relax and take in the stunning views across the lake. Some rooms open directly into the garden, whilst several rooms have their own private gardens.

Our main garden areas have generous plantings of shrubs, herbaceous plants and seasonal bedding, with more unusual varieties alongside the traditional favourites. There are drifts of evergreen foliage shrubs, Fragrant shrub roses, plants selected for scent and winter interest species too.

Private Gardens

Many of our ground floor bedrooms at Lakeside have direct access to the gardens.
However four luxurious rooms have their own private garden space, designed to a particular theme:

The Scented Garden

Created using plants that have scented flowers or foliage; it has a traditional mixed style of planting with a central paved area.

The Subtropical Garden

Full of plants that have lush foliage or vibrant flowers; this offers the feel of a garden in a warmer, more tropical climate.

The Calm Garden

Designed to have an overall calm and peaceful feeling. The colours are mostly greens and whites and a circular lawn adds a restful touch.

Aromatherapy Garden

Created using plants that supply us with the essential oils for Aromatherapy, all planted in a cottage garden style.

The garden team are never too busy to tell you more about our plants, and may be contacted at

Winners of Cumbria in Bloom’s ‘Large Hotel of the Year’ award 2018

Cumbria in Bloom winners

We were delighted to be announced winners of the award.

“It’s a real thrill to win this award again and especially after an exceptionally hot, dry summer.  Much was done by all of our gardening staff to keep the gardens not only alive but flowering and flourishing.  My thanks as usual go to the dedicated and passionate team here at Lakeside Hotel.  We have big plans for improvements over the next year, incorporating more wildlife friendly plantings as well as sharpening up our existing displays.  We look forward to presenting these diverse and beautiful gardens to you over the coming year and beyond.”
