Arts and Crafts

There is a wealth of galleries and craft shops to be found in the Lakeland villages, including some of the best in contemporary living at Chesters by the River.

Local Speciality Food and Drink

Don’t forget to sample and take home some of the great cuisine the Lakes are famous for – Grasmere Gingerbread, Kendal Mintcake, Cumberland Sausage, Hawkshead Relish and Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Cumbria has a wide selection of unique speciality food shops that you won’t find anywhere else, and all are well worth visiting.

There are also a wide variety of locally brewed ales, and not forgetting the very special Lyth Valley Damson Gin (as used to create Lakeside Hotel’s very own Damson Gin Slings – highly recommended!)

Don’t forget Lakeland Limited’s flagship Windermere Store for all things ‘kitchen’!

Farmer’s Markets

A network of over 100 busy markets countywide each year, providing access to locally produced foods including a wide range of meats, fish, dairy, pickles, preserves, bakery products and puddings. Held throughout Cumbria on a regular basis in Brampton, Brough, Carlisle, Carnforth, Egremont, Kendal, Orton, Penrith, Ulverston and Whitehaven.

Made in Cumbria

Made In Cumbria provides a range of Cumbrian craft, giftware and food producers offering ‘…a product must be wholly manufactured in Cumbria or that the last treatment or process, resulting in a substantial change, must take place within the county.’

Local Craft Fairs

Visit a local craft fair held throughout the year in different locations throughout the Lakes.
