Autumn Arrives at Lakeside: September by the Shores of Windermere

Hotel Spa

September is one of the most beautiful times to experience the Lake District. As summer gently gives way to autumn, the landscape begins to change, bringing crisp mornings, golden light and the first hints of autumn colour to the shores of Lake Windermere.

From peaceful mornings by the water to cosy evenings overlooking the lake, September at Lakeside is all about slowing down, embracing the changing season and making the most of those final lighter days.

Make the Most of the Last of the Summer Light

As the days slowly begin to shorten, September still brings plenty of opportunity to enjoy the last of the summer light over Lake Windermere. For a stay that makes the most of the view, our Lakeview Superior Double Rooms are perfectly positioned overlooking the lake, offering a beautiful spot to watch the changing light across the water from the comfort of your room.

The First Signs of Autumn in Our Gardens

September brings a subtle change to the gardens at Lakeside. The vibrant colours of summer begin to give way to the warmer tones of early autumn, while the grounds remain a peaceful place to wander, relax and take in the changing season.

Whether you’re enjoying a morning coffee outdoors, taking a stroll through the grounds or simply stopping to admire the views across the lake, there’s something particularly special about this time of year.

For guests wanting to discover more of the grounds, Head Gardener Kevin continues his popular guided garden tours every Wednesday at 10:15am, sharing his knowledge of the seasonal planting, changing landscape and hidden details across the estate.

September Wellness at Lakeside Sanctuary

After a summer of sunshine, warmer weather and busy days outdoors, September is the perfect time to slow things down and give your skin a little extra care as we move into the new season. For the ultimate seasonal recharge, we especially recommend our ELEMIS Expert Nourish Facial designed to deeply nourish and replenish the skin, leaving your complexion feeling refreshed, hydrated and beautifully revitalised – the perfect post-summer reset.

Our Floating Sound Bath Experiences also continue throughout the season following an incredible response from guests. As the evenings draw in, there’s no better time to slow down, switch off and embrace a little autumn calm. Combining soothing sound therapy with the tranquil surroundings of our pool, these cosy evening experiences are designed to ease stress, encourage deep relaxation and leave you feeling completely restored.

As the evenings become cooler and autumn begins to settle over the Lake District, we highly recommend pairing your spa visit with a drink in the Conservatory or, when the weather allows, out on the terrace , taking in the peaceful views across Lake Windermere and making the most of those final golden evenings by the water.

Exciting Changes Are Underway at Lakeside

There are plenty of exciting things happening behind the scenes at Lakeside as we continue to invest in the hotel.

Renovations are underway across a number of areas, including an exciting transformation of our restaurant and updates to our bedrooms, all designed to enhance the Lakeside experience while retaining the character, comfort and incredible setting our guests know and love.

We can’t wait to share more of the transformations with you as they take shape, so keep an eye on our website and social channels for the latest updates and first looks.

What’s On in the Lake District This September

September is a wonderful time to explore the Lake District, with the first signs of autumn appearing across the landscape, quieter days around the lake and plenty of reasons to get outdoors.

One of the highlights this month is THE LAP, an incredible challenge taking runners and walkers on a journey around Lake Windermere. Whether you’re taking part or supporting, Lakeside is perfectly placed for a little relaxation afterwards!

For a slower way to explore, step aboard a Windermere Lake Cruise from Lakeside and sail up the lake to Bowness-on-Windermere. Spend a few hours browsing the shops, stopping for lunch or simply enjoying the atmosphere before cruising back to Lakeside.

For those wanting to pull on their walking boots, Orrest Head is our walk of choice this September. This relatively short walk rewards you with spectacular panoramic views across Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells – particularly beautiful as the landscape begins to take on its autumn colours.

However you choose to explore this September, return to Lakeside for a well-earned drink, a relaxing spa session or a cosy evening overlooking the water.
