March in the Lake District

Hotel Spa

A Spring Escape by the Water

As winter softens and the first signs of spring begin to appear, March is a beautiful time to escape to the shores of Lake Windermere.

At Lakeside Hotel, everything you need for a relaxed, memory-making break is right here on the water’s edge, from scenic lake cruises and nostalgic railway journeys to seasonal dining and restorative spa experiences.

With iconic Lake District attractions within walking distance and brighter days beginning to stretch into lighter evenings, March offers the perfect balance of calm and renewal before the Easter season arrives.

Make the most of our Stay, Save & Explore package, with 15% off our best available rates and two complimentary attraction tickets, designed to help you experience more of the Lake District this spring.

Here’s our guide to the best things to do in the Lake District this March.

Sailings to and from Lakeside

Step straight from the hotel onto the water with Windermere Lake Cruises. Departing daily from Lakeside Pier throughout March, these serene spring cruises glide across England’s largest lake to Bowness-on-Windermere.

Cool, fresh air, softer spring light and wide-open fell views make this a classic Lake District experience and a wonderfully car-free way to explore. March sailings are beautifully peaceful, offering space to slow down and take in Windermere.

Spring in the Lakeside Gardens

As March unfolds, the gardens at Lakeside Hotel begin to awaken for the season. Early spring flowers start to appear, fresh greenery returns to the grounds, and the gardens become a peaceful place to wander and take in the views across Lake Windermere.

Guests are welcome to explore the gardens during their stay, discovering quiet corners, lakeside viewpoints and pathways that lead directly to the water’s edge.

Our Head Gardener, Kevin, who has lovingly cared for the Lakeside gardens for many years, also hosts informal garden tours every Wednesday at 10:30am. These relaxed walks offer guests the chance to learn more about the seasonal planting, the history of the grounds and the work that goes into keeping the gardens looking beautiful throughout the year.

It’s a lovely way to slow down, connect with nature and experience another side of Lakeside as spring begins to unfold.
