It’s ideal for families who want to be able to walk safely and enjoy the stunning views. The route avoids most of the roads, and the path is as accessible as possible. High Dam via Great Knott Wood

Distance: 4 miles (Moderate)

This walk is perfect for those with dogs because of the combination of lush woodland and the scenic reservoir on the peaceful, less travelled route. If you are brave, take a dip in the chilly waters to cool off along your walk. There is a car park in the village of Finsthwaite where you can park to take on the circular walk around the tarn, which takes about an hour, if you do not want to walk all the way from the hotel.

Waterhead Pier to Orrest Head

Distance: 2 miles (Easy)

Another maximum reward for minimum effort walk. This relatively short walk begins at Waterhead Pier in Ambleside and climbs to Orrest Head, one of the most easily accessible viewpoints in the area. Though the ascent is steady, it’s manageable for most walkers, making it an ideal choice for a quick but rewarding outing.
